In the first, a sustained lyrical melody is played by the violin and viola together, accompanied by plucked notes in the cello. (\u201cCanticle\u201d is from the Latin \u201ccanticulum,\u201d meaning \u201cshort song.\u201d) The second section, which follows directly, is swift, lively and animated, in a kind of perpetual motion. <i>Canticle and Caprice<\/i> was written for the <a href=\"http:\/\/chintimini.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chintimini Music Festival<\/a>, with grant assistance from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newmusicusa.org\/projects\/chintimini-chamber-music-festival-commissionresidency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Music USA<\/a>.
